A Jordan bathed in controversy since its inception in 1985, initially banned by the NBA Michael Jordan was fined $5000 per game for wearing the combination Red and Black Jordan 1's as they didn't include the colour white in conjunction with Chicago Bulls team colours. Not deterred by this, Nike used this as a marketing tactic crafting the ‘Banned' Campaign in association with these high tops to promote this particular Air Jordan line. Ever since Michael Jordan defiantly wore them the eye-catching blend of black and red has been a fan favourite. Since then the shoes have been revived in 1994, 2011, 2013 and now with the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG banned coming out in September 2016. With this, a time honoured tradition continues to celebrate the defiance which made Michael Jordan an icon and a trailblazer in so many ways.
